Hey Seniors! It’s “Your” Year Now
Happy New Year! Now it’s YOUR year. It feels so weird when the calendar turns into "your" year...the "Class of 2025." That year that’s been associated with you for so long! I still remember so well when it turned into 1987 (yes I am THAT old!). It was exciting and terrifying at the same time.
And even though this is a site dedicated to college counseling, it’s also dedicated to supporting the high school student you are today. So, here are a few words of wisdom as you lean into the end of senior year.
BE PRESENT in these last few months of high school. Try not to mourn "the last" of everything. Each thing will pass whether you enjoy it or feel sad about it - may as well enjoy each moment as it comes!
BE CONFIDENT that everything with college will work out the way it should for you. Know, deep down, that no matter what schools you get into, the most important part of college will be WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU GET THERE. Where you go is the backdrop, but YOU will be the main character, you will make it great by being engaged, inquisitive, inclusive, and open to new experiences.
PAY ATTENTION to the friends right in front of you. Right now. Some of them will stick with you for life, and even those who don’t, will always be a part of your story.
BE BOLD. Try out for the show, the team, the position. Raise your hand, speak your mind. This time is almost over. It won’t come again. In your life you will regret more of the things you don’t do, then the things you GO FOR.
BE PROUD of how far you’ve come. You’ve lived through a global pandemic, navigated life under a digital spotlight, and handled stressors that your parents or grandparents could never imagine.
BE READY for all the end of senior year brings. If you can’t wait for high school to be over, you’re in luck…you’re only months away from freedom. If you love where you are right now, revel in it. Go to the games, the plays, and the proms. The future will wait for you. Enjoy the ride.
Class of 2025…it’s your time now.
